The textbook English for Media Purposes: Part A has been carefully designed for media students aiming to acquire topical and comprehensive terminology and practical and relevant knowledge that supports both academic learning and professional communication in their field of interest. Serving as an essential supplement to Cambridge English for the Media (2008), this study material offers current examples, modern terminology, and contextualized exercises that reflect today’s media landscape.
The eight topics covered – Newspapers, Radio, Magazines, Television, Film, New Media, Advertising, and Marketing – give students a broad yet detailed understanding of media, enabling them to engage critically with texts, videos, discussions, and other grammar and vocabulary tasks. Each unit emphasizes not only comprehension and vocabulary acquisition but also practical applications, fostering skills that students can directly transfer to their studies. In addition, the textbook revises basic knowledge of numbers and figures, symbols, mathematical operations, graphs, terminology of 2D and 3D shapes, reading URLs, web pages, email addresses, punctuation marks, and typographical features. These foundational elements ensure that students can speak confidently and accurately about various marketing, advertising, and new media topics. The tasks and exercises are thouthfully built to develop critical, analytical and strategic thinking, creativity, spontaneity and fluency in speaking English, collaborative problem-solving, decision-making, as well as storytelling skills. Variety of interactive learning methods – group work, pair work, project tasks, and games – ensure that students engage actively, communicate effectively, and learn in a dynamic and motivating environment.
Throughout the textbook, students encounter tasks that encourage reflection on arising problems, as well as revision of grammar linked to the terminology presented in each unit.
We hope that students and their educators alike will find this textbook to be a dynamic and contributing resource, one that keeps pace with the ever-changing media environment while reinforcing the solid language and analytical skills necessary for success.
